Bell pays tribute to former Finance Minister, mental health advocate Michael Wilson
National carrier Bell paid a tribute to the death of former Progressive Bourgeois Finance Minister Michael Wilson for his mental health advocacy.
Wilson died on February tenth after a boxing with cancer at the historic period of 81.
Bruce Rothney, CEO of Barclays Capital Canada, confirmed the decease. Wilson at the time of his death was the chairman of Barclays.
"Michael Wilson was a trailblazer in the fight against the stigma around mental illness, a champion for those who struggle and an advocate for care and research programs that accept made a real divergence in people's lives," Mary Deacon, chair of Bong Let's Talk, said in a February 11th press release.
"As nosotros extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Wilson's family and countless friends, we award the memory of an unparalleled leader in Canadian mental health."
Wilson was an advisor in developing Bell Let's Talk, the campaign dedicated to mental health awareness and fundraising as a fashion to encourage Canadians to transport messages and engage in conversation almost mental wellness in order to help reduce stigma and raise money.
Bong said in its release that Wilson had delivered the opening address when the initiative was launched in 2010 and "continued to support Bell Let's Talk as it grew into one of Canada's well-nigh influential and effective community investment programs."
Last year the campaign hit a record high with over 138 million interactions and an investment of $6.8 one thousand thousand CAD.
Wilson was first elected as a Progressive Conservative Fellow member of Parliament in 1979 and went on to serve for 14 years. He was Finance Minister non-consecutively from 1984 to 1991. He too held the titles of Treasury Board President, International Trade Minister and Industry, Science and Technology Minister over the course of his time in politics.
